In Memoriam Donato "Dony" Joaquin '57 I first heard the sad shocking news from Maricris, widow of Gerry n Garcia '59. I turned on our Viber, and there was Nelson '61 bearing the same news. I will post my "eulogy" later own... i just want at this point to let the grief linger in my heart for a little more while..... (brods who wish to say a word of condolence, share some recollections of events pass, or simply "sign" this book of condolences... pls do so.

Ramyleo T. Pelayo '62 (b: Feb 18, 1943 - d: June 19, 2023)
".. Ramyleo Pelayo.TELAN!!!.." That was how we ended our rendition of "Working on the Railroad" song - our "term of endearment" of him in our times. Wonder how many brods recall himself shouting that word "TELAN" in chorus. And he took it good-naturedly, as was his character. It was supposed to signify how well we knew his middle name, and only that. We knew his middle name, but we hardly knew him, as he was, in Churchill's famous description of the Soviet Union after WW II, a "riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.." Ramy was the quiet type, the kind who did not call attention to himself, a self-effacing fellow content to consign himself in a corner, quietly sipping his beer, or linger in the perimeter of a huddle...never butting in.....who spoke in whispers.. even a rare joke that quietly escapes his mouth, sounding unsure, is directed to one person only. He never addressed a group, he spoke only to one person at a t...
Jomelo Singson '68
Sail on +Brod Jomelo TAU ALPHA BATCH 1968 Number four of five neophytes surviving the test of brotherhood thru the months-long of mental, emotional and physical challenges of Tau Alpha Fraternity….molding, fine tuning and reshaping each one’s values, character, attitudes and foresight in their lives journey. 1968 it was when Jose Carmelo Espejo Singson together with four others were penned in the fraternity’s roster. Today, there’s just silence and living memories lingering when his name is called. An engineer, musician, loyal friend, comedian, tennister, charmer, fighter and most of all a die hard Alphan. Recollection of throw backs is such sorrow but makes me smile of the sweet memories left behind. It all started when our group of Prepians coming from Billiaran we’re waiting for bus going home. Jomelo saw a big hunk Tau Alphan with us in the shed, without hesitation asked, “Tau Alphan ka, di ba?” Rough looking Tito Aliling looked at him straight to his eyes replying, “Oo, baki...

ReplyDeletePain which does not sleep, falls drop by drop into our hearts, until in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom through the awful grace of God - Aeschelus
ReplyDelete…to a beautiful beloved brother TotemTA’61…tribute…
ReplyDeletea new beginning
behold!
since the dawn of light
as sure as the sun sets
a new beginning rises
a new pathway to a patterned
dust to dust memento mori
a ji uy the blossoming of dawn
we cry we accept
we pray such is life
we smile
we have faith
we believe
we repeat…
we celebrate
the flowering
of a new life…
a new beginning
from a glorious Tau Alpha lore
we remember you Brod Totem
fifty argonauts
on the ship Argo
with you Brod Totem
Jason at the helm
to the Elysian Fields
Brods waiting smiling…
words unspoken
at hand…ten cases of beer await
lo! joy and laughters…
embraces of love
in the moment occurs…
welcome-you arrive!
just like in the Diliman
Tambayan when Brod Totem
shows up with his stoic persona
in the days gone by
bakya we called him he smiled
unscripted Brod Totem smiled
his eyes blinked toasting tagay
to all Brods at the camaraderie table wherever Brods gathered
tales of conquests gushed out
repeated hours on end
from the Melchor Hall cafeteria
to the sunsets to sunrises
soirée in Dewey Boulevard
more cases of beer at hand
such was Brod Totem’s love for Tau Alpha
unspoken yet deep seated in his heart sitting where he was eyes penetrating
may you be smiling ever more
with peace where ever you will be
up in the firmament in the Elysian Fields stoically with Brods there before you
from your batchmates 1961 Tau Alpha
We love you Brod Totem-tagay!

“bakya”
the “bakya” moniker was a love endearment from Brod Ericus to Brod Totem - had to do with the way Brod Totem shows up…his “dating” so to speak …an embodiment of a “probinsyano”, vernacular country boy is what it was…
